Into the Woods Jr.
Music and Lyrics by Stephen Sondheim Book by James Lapine Directed by Trent Gardiner Musical Direction by Sally Robertson 14–30 November 2025 A magical journey of wishes, wonder, and what happens after happily ever after. Step into a world where fairy tales collide in Into the Woods Jr., a spellbinding musical that brings together some of the most beloved characters from childhood stories. From Cinderella dreaming of the ball, to Jack setting out with his cow in search of fortune, to Little Red Riding Hood venturing through the forest, and Rapunzel longing for freedom, each tale intertwines in surprising and magical ways. With Stephen Sondheim’s enchanting score and James Lapine’s clever storytelling, this junior adaptation explores not only what happens when wishes are granted, but also the unexpected challenges that follow. The woods become a place of discovery, where characters are tested and where the true meaning of “happily ever after” comes into question. Themes of family, friendship, bravery, and responsibility resonate strongly, reminding audiences young and old that actions have consequences and that we are all connected through the choices we make. This children's musical production will transport audiences into a world of wonder, mischief, and heart. The show’s playful humour, magical storytelling, and timeless lessons make it a delightful experience for families, while Sondheim’s music ensures there is depth and beauty for all ages to enjoy. Celebrating 30 years of Lane Cove Theatre Company’s tradition of bringing children’s stories to the stage, Into the Woods Jr. is the perfect way to honour that legacy. Audiences will not only be entertained, but also reminded of the joy and power of storytelling—a tradition that has shaped the company’s journey over three decades. Licensed exclusively by Music Theatre International (Australasia). All performance materials supplied by Hal Leonard Australia. Be careful what you wish for… the woods are full of surprises |
