CALENDAR GIRLS By Tim Firth Directed by Kathy Petrakis 20 February – 1 March 2026 “a triumph of heart, humour, and community spirit.” Set in the rolling hills of Yorkshire, Calendar Girls tells the story of a group of ordinary women who, in the face of grief, decide to do something extraordinary. When Annie's husband John dies of leukaemia, she and best friend Chris resolve to raise money for a new settee in the local hospital waiting room. They manage to persuade four fellow Women's Institute members to pose nude with them for an "alternative" calendar, with a little help from hospital porter and amateur photographer Lawrence. The news of the women's charitable venture spreads like wildfire, and hordes of press soon descend on the small village of Knapeley in the Yorkshire Dales. The calendar is a success, but Chris and Annie's friendship is put to the test under the strain of their new-found fame. Tim Firth’s hilarious play based on the true story of eleven women who posed nude for a calendar to raise money for the Leukaemia Research Fund, Calendar Girls is a witty and heart-warming story of friendship and determination. Calendar Girls is more than a nostalgic trip. In a community-focused theatre such as Lane Cove, its themes - friendship, loss, courage, and the extraordinary things ordinary people do - are especially resonant. Audiences will leave the theatre laughing, teary-eyed, and proud of these delightful, daring local performers. The ensemble cast includes Michaell Bellamy, Anita Lenzo, Pauline Gardner, Josephine Birch, Jannette Chambers, Georgina Philpott, Karen Firmstone, Darren Gibson, Blake Nicholas and Anastasia Vokhmyakova. An amateur production by arrangement with ORiGiN™ Theatrical, on behalf of Samuel French Ltd |
